2026-11-04 12:06:AM <br/> Tags: #AmericanJewry #people #Trump ![[image-5.png|347]] # Elan Carr (1968-) - Elan Carr is a prominent American Jewish communal leader who runs in Republican political circles, most notably serving as [[Donald Trump]]'s [[Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism]] and later as CEO of the [[Israeli-American Council]].[^1] #### Activities - Carr was born in New York City to an Ashkenazi-Jewish father and an Iraqi-Jewish mother. - Carr's grandfather, an Iraqi-Jew, was supposedly imprisoned in Iraq at the onset of the [[1948 Arab Israeli War]] for "disseminating Communist propaganda."[^4] - At the time of his grandfather's brief imprisonment, the rest of the family made it to Israel where Carr's mother "underwent army service in intelligence" before coming to the United States for academic purposes.[^4] - Carr "was educated at a Jewish day school, traveling to Israel annually."[^4] - After attaining a law degree from Northwestern University, Carr "spent a year in Israel serving as a legal advisor to Israel’s Ministry of Justice, helping create the country’s first-ever public defender program."[^3] - After his time as [[Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism]], Carr was appointed CEO of the [[Israeli-American Council]]. He replaced Shoham Nicolet who was among the IAC's founders and its CEO from 2015-2023. Nicolet became president of the [[Adelson Family Foundation]] in August of 2026.[^2][^3] - The IAC's announcement of Carr's appointment describes him as "a second-generation Israeli-American and native Hebrew speaker" whose "parents were among the initial group that founded the organization." - In accepting his appointment, Carr described the "significant challenges" facing Jewish Americans of "assimilation and antisemitism."[^3] *In the Jewish world, particularly the pro-Israel/religious Jewish world, assimilation is seen as a disturbing plague needing immediate attention for fear of the Jewish people dissolving into the assimilated mass of the societies they live in.
